How do I remove the gray box that randomly appears while scaling photos?

Every time I copy and paste a photo to add to my document, a gray box appears over the entire document. I can save it as a PNG file and the graphics appear wonderfully. However, if I try to edit the Ai file, the gray box blocks everything.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks!

Hi Srishti,

Thanks for your reply.

I have Windows 10 with Adobe CC Illustrator 23.0.

The gray box covers the entire document, so I can't see or edit anything.
