How to add/create a custom keyboard shortcut to hide Illustrator?

Community Beginner ,

I am wondering why there isn't a "Hide Illustrator (Commnad H)" like there is in Photoshop and inDesign? All one big CC family, why not same basic function keys accross the entire CC Universe?

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. In Illustrator, by default, cmd+h is used for show/hide Edges. But you may add a keyboard shortcut to hide Illustrator. Here are the steps:

  1. Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts
  2. Select "Menu Commands" from the drop-down menu

  3.  Illustrator > Hide Illustrator
  4. Add your custom shortcut by pressing the combination keys.

However, if you use cmd+h for hiding the Illustrator, then the hide/show Edges shortcut will be nulled. So, you may create the shortcuts accordingly.

Also, I would suggest you to post this as a feature request here: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/, and the product team may consider this. This way, you will keep getting all the updates related to this request, and other users can also upvote, which will help prioritize it.

Thanks & Regards,
