How to binding two objects like this?

Does anyone know how to create a similar effect to binding two objects together in Illustrator, as shown in the video?

I've tried reaching out to the original creator but haven't received a response, and I'm not even sure if Illustrator has this capability.

There's only a part of that selected.

So you have 2 shapes and then there is something added cia appearances and then reflected via appearances.

It's simpler than I thought, because that flag part to the very left is a shape as well. But when you select the rest, then you don't see it. So it's this. The transform effect reflects it and the warp effect arches it.

Thank you,

I understand that the composition of the entire object involves the use of appearances and reflection effect,

but I don't understand about how the 2 shapes in the video can be in a state where one edge sticks to the other, and selecting just one edge of one shape moves them together.

Glad you could solve it. Appearance panel is a lot of fun!
