How to change the text color and keep shaded part of WTR Gothic Open Shaded font in Illustrator?

Hi, I want to change the fill colour on this font and keep the shaded part black. I can only see how to change the colour of the font, which changes the shadow part and not the inside of the letter. Any ideas? Or is there a way of separating the internal letter shape from the external shaded part. I tried outlining, but can't seem to separate the 2 parts of the letter.

@Patbutcherearrings

do you need a fully editable live text?

One limit --> one color per textframe

How to do it on the iPad? No idea, I only use Illustrator on the computer.

Does anybody have directions in English? Trying to do it through German but I'm getting lost.

Group the textbox.

In the Appearance panel add a new Fill below the Group Contents.

Use Effects > Pathfinder > Trim on the Fill.

Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out and answering the questions asked by @Patbutcherearrings.

You should be able to do this by following these steps:

  • Select text > Type > Create outlines
  • Then select all the letters and right-click > Release Compound path
  • Select the main letters and apply the color of your liking to them.
  • (Optional) You can also scale the colored letters and get rid of the black stroke/ outline around them by perfectly aligning with the background shadow.

Let us know if you need any further assistance. We'd be happy to help.

Thanks & Regards,

In the iPad app you outline the font.

Then you ungroup and release the compound path.

Then you can recolor the counters of the letters.

WTR Gothic shaded; it looks like this and I want to know the best way of filling each letter with a different colour whilst retaining the black shading.
