How to highlight a path when selected?

Usually when I select an object, the path stays highlighted until I unselect it. Now the path only stays highlghted when I hover my cursor over it, regardless of whether or not the object is selected. I'm not sure how this changed, but is there a way to change it back?

Reset preferences.
