Hey guys!

Im very new to Illustrator and have a fast question.

How do I make the text kinda go through my white object, so that the text will be filled by the background?

Help.png

As seen above.

I want the black to be the red and blue background.

How do I "make a hole" in the white object?

I just played around with it and the only way I could get it to work was to do the following:

  1. Convert text into outlines
  2. Select white area + text outlines and use Pathfinder's subtract

Note that if the letters don't look quite right, it's probably because the stroke of the white area is applied to the inside of the holes left by the letters, so you'll need the white area to have no stroke for it to look right.

I tried with a clipping mask, but I'm woefully inadequate that. Maybe someone else knows how to do that with clipping masks of opacity masks.

Heh, thanks! That's exactly what I thought you should be able to do, but I am not an expert at using Illustrator, only at making tools for it

LOL I think it's a better option. I'd like to be a good coder rather than a good illustrator.
