How to remove texture from shape

New Here ,

Hi

Does anyone know how I can take a texture that I've created and subtract it from the object?

I want the texture to cut into the shape, so whatever colour the background is, the texture will appear the same?

I'm sure it's something to do with Pathfinder, but I can't work it out.

I've attached one shape with the texture as an example.

Thanks

You have a stroke, a gradient fill and problably some more in that?

Then possibly an opacity mask will work best.

Make a group or compound path from the texture.

Apply a black fill to the elements that make the texture

Select the texture and the object and in the transparency panel click on Make Mask.

After that check out if you need to modify the options.

Read about it in the documentation:

Thank you. It works with Make Compound.
