illustrator 2018 - eyedropper tool doesn't pick-up properties

Community Beginner ,

Hi,

I've updated to the latest version of illustrator 2018 and found a bug relating to the eyedropper tool.

It doesn't pick up the properties especially with text styles. I have one style of text, use the eyedropper to copy the style to the other and doesn't work.

It picks up colour but very oddly picks up shades as well and not the solid colour of the object.

How do I fix it or must i wait for an update?

thanks

Has this ever been fixed? I've been having that issue lately too.

Please describe your issue and show us how the eyedropper tool is set up.

Thank you for the responses. I got into Illustrator so I could show the issue, but it works perfectly now? I even tested it with grouped items and it worked. Great, but I don't get it. If it happens again, I will surely take screenshots to demonstrate the issue. Thank you again.

you have to watch the Appearance panel. I have recorded a video about it which I will soon publish on my YouTube channel.

Hi @Phil27649595wmfh,

If you're facing issues with the Illustrator Eyedropper tool not picking up properties as expected, here are a couple of steps you can try:

  1. Double-Click on Eyedropper Tool: Double-click on the Eyedropper tool in your Illustrator toolbar. This will open the Eyedropper Options dialog box. Ensure that the properties you want to pick up are selected in the options. You can customize which properties the Eyedropper tool picks up by checking or unchecking the corresponding options in this dialog.
  2. Share a Screenshot: If the issue persists after checking the Eyedropper Options, as Monika said, it would be helpful to share a screenshot of your Illustrator workspace and Eyedropper tool settings when the problem occurs. This will provide more context for troubleshooting. Also, please mention which version of Illustrator and operating system you are using, as this information can be valuable in diagnosing the issue.

Once you've double-checked the Eyedropper Options and provided more details, we can offer more specific guidance to resolve the problem.

Best,

Anshul Saini

Make sure to ungroup these objects you want to transfer properties from and to. Then the color picker does it's job.

There is no need to ungroup. But you really need to understand the Appearance panel. And remember to use the shift key..

I have selected everything: copy all properties from one object and past them unto another. Nothing! I looked and saw each individual shape was grouped in it's own group. I selected all these groups, ungrouped them (CTRL+Shift+G), and now it started picking up properties.

When you use the eyedropper tool with groups, you have to hold down shift while picking up colors. And you have to watch out that your groups are not already "ruined"
