Illustrator 2020 crash/lock after running for a couple hours with Photoshop open on Windows machine

So I posted about this previously but having gotten a solution and the thread has gone stale as I hadnt replied for a couple weeks and I really want to figure out a solution.

After a few hours of using illustrator and opening and saving multiple files for production set up or creative design illustrator will start acting odd by my toolbar not showing dimensions or my swatch and stroke not showing the correct colors and then when I realize what's going on I will try to save and the drop down panel will be blacked out until I highlight over each button like "save" "save as" etc. I attached a few images for reference.

Ive also noticed this tends to happen when Im running photoshop as well. Ive also been having problems with photoshop running extremely slow once the file gets larger and Ive been wanting to upgrade my RAM or get a larger SSD card but I am not sure if that will fix it. I am running a IBuyPower desktop computer, the specs are as follows:

Processor: Intel Core i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20 GHz

RAM: 16 GB

System: 64 Bit Operating System, x64 Based Processor

I am not running any third party apps or anything else. I think Ive covered everything but let me know if you have any questions as I really want to figure out how to go about upgrading my system or anything else to enhance my performance especially with photoshop. Thanks so much!

Hi,

We have been waiting for your response to this query. I would like to know if turning off GPU performance in Illustrator preferences suggested above worked for you, or the issue still persists. If you are still facing this issue, please share the following details:

  • GPU installed on your machine.
  • When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates or web extensions installed recently.
  • Are you using multiple screen setup? Is it happening on secondary screens?
  • In case it crashe and throws any crash report, please share it with us by following these steps shared on this help article (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/kb/crash-next-steps.html).

Kindly update the discussion if you need further assistance with it.

Regards,

Srishti

Im using windows 10 home which is up to date but not exactly sure which version that is. I dont have a dual monitor set up.

Ive been using the same setup since I started the job I'm at which was about a year ago and it seems like it started a few months after starting this job which would have been October 2018. I think it started around January after an update but I also started using Photoshop more frequently which is when I notice this happening more often.Ive attache

d a few more photos as well from a recent crash.

I havent had any changes to the system Im running, no extensions or anything like that. I'm not running any antivirus software besides what the system came with out of the box. I did turn off the GPU performance enhancement and didnt notice a difference but I've also gotten into the habit of rebooting my computer frequently as it gets bogged down. I dont know if this is helpful but I generally have 3 programs running at all time sometimes 4, Illustrator, Microsoft Outlook, and an estimating software called Cyrious and the 4th is when I am running photoshop which I close out of when I'm done since it bogs my system down so badly.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing with Illustrator. I would request if you can share a few more details like:

  1. The exact version of Illustrator.
  2. Does this happen while working on a specific file or on any file?
  3. Please try turning off the GPU performance from the Preferences and see if it works fine.
  4. Please check if the Graphics Card drivers are up to date.

Regards

Rishabh

Sorry, I have illustrator up to date as I just updated yesterday morning I believe. My graphics cards are also up to date as I checked that as well. It happens frequently regardless of what type of file I am working on but it seems to happen more frequently while running photoshop as well.

My illustrator version is - 24.0.01

Photoshop - 21.0.02

Let me know if there is any other information I may have missed.

Hey guys first time posting, but I've been reading these forums for a long time. I've been using illustrator for years now and only recently in the last 6 months has this issue started.

After a few hours of using illustrator and opening and saving multiple files for production set up or creative design illustrator will start acting odd by my toolbar not showing dimensions or my swatch and stroke not showing the correct colors and then when I realize what's going on I will try to save and the drop down panel will be blacked out until I highlight over each button like save save as etc. I attached an image and I have no idea what's going on. Thanks guys.

I just updated to 2020 and am still having the issue. I am not running any plug-ins and every now and then I may have photoshop running but only if I absolutely need too because it slows me down so much. And I am running a IBuyPower desktop with an icore7 processor.

Also maybe crashing isnt the best word to use as I can still use whatever tool I have open and it does not freeze up until I try to click on another tool and even when it freezes it doesnt crash I always have to manually close out with task manager.  Most of the time I dont even realize its happening until I go to save or my dimensions on the task bar won't be correlating with the shape I click or something like that. I dont know if it matters but I usually always have Microsoft Outlook running as well in the background. Thanks so much again, Ive tried looking online for answers but I don't know how to explain it since its not neccessarily crashing.
