Hi Illustrator Team,

since updating to AI Version 28.1 im getting weird Artifacts when panning and zooming in on Artboards.
It always happens, especially when there are a lot of Objects or Fonts. Its becoming really distracting when working.

There is also a Delay of about 1 Sec. before the zoom/pan finishes

Problem Only Occurs when using GPU. CPU Preview functions normally.

I have reset the Prefs (and deleted the Folders), reinstalled Illustrator, reinstalled Graphics Drivers (and downloaded older Drivers) & Updated Windows and nothing seems to help.

System Specs:

  • Windows 11 (23H2) with latest Updates (Build: 22631.3007, Experience Pack Ver. 1000.22681.1000.0)
  • Ryzen 5800x
  • RTX 3070 (Studio Driver Ver. 546.33)
  • 32GB DDR4 Ram
  • 4TB Samsung Evo 970 NVME
  • 2560x1440 120HZ Display

Attached is a Video of the Problem and Screenshots of the Artifacts.

Hi @Joshi5C87,

I'm sorry to hear about the artifacts and performance issues you're facing in Adobe Illustrator. To further investigate, could you provide some additional details:

  • Are you using an external monitor, or are you working on the built-in laptop screen?
  • Check if your monitor and GPU settings have features like FreeSync or G-Sync. If present, try toggling them on and see if it improves the situation.
  • Can you try changing the monitor's refresh rate to 60Hz and see if the artifacts persist? Sometimes, a higher refresh rate may cause issues.

These additional details will help in narrowing down the possible causes and finding an appropriate solution.

Best,

Anshul Saini

Hi @Anshul_Saini,

thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Im using an external Monitor (Desktop Computer) connected via Displayport, i tried using HDMI but it makes no difference.

I tried turning off Adaptive Sync/G-Sync, Problem seems to persist.

Turning down the refresh rate to 60, or higher to 120, 144 doesn't seem to work aswell.

I found a curiosity though, it seems to happen when the GPU Modul is initialized (see attached Video, Task Manager), when the Modul is "on" there seems to be no Artifacting, only in the beginning when the modul doesn't seem to be present or isn't initialized yet.

It also seems worse when using ALT + Scroll, when using scrubby zoom via the zoom tool, the artifacting  just happens in the beginning.

After a while, when Task Manager is showing no GPU Module and you start to zoom again, the artifacting and delay comes back.

Hope this helps narrowing it down. Thanks again!

Just to add, i just tried using Illustrator Version 28.0 and it doens't have the issue.

Version 28.0 functions completely normal, no artifacts, no delay, nothing.

Seems to be an issue with 28.1 and i don't know what causes it.
