I have bought a iMac 27inch Retina 5K, 2020) with a 3.6 GHz 10 Core i9, and added 64 GB of RAM. My computer performs super well when I edit super heavy Videos in After Effects, but moving a mector objects brings a beachball to my screen. Every more I make comes a few seconds later.

Dictation is off. I reinstalled the software, I deactivated any fonts I don't use and checked for corrupted fonts.

What the hell is going on with Illustrator? It was my favorite application and now I want to burn the house down! Please help before I start a fire.

I haven't had a project I can film as content is private. But I can tell it's font management that's creating a lag. I have the Typeface app installed to manage my local fonts and Google fonts. The Adobe fonts are managed by Creative Cloud. One font that i use a lot for one of my client is Montserrat. I use the Adobe Font version and most of my documents that have that font are slow. I also use Open Sans from Google and it's slow also. I don,t blame those 2 fonts as I've seen the lag with other fonts. But that's the info I can give at ths time. Should I install another font manager? It's the first time I have this problem. It always used to go so well.

I believed it is now Solved.... I updated from Big Sur to Monterey. I don't see the lag anymore. I want to party right now. 😉 Hope this helps anyone who had the same problem.

Hi @artsurmesure,

We are sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind sharing a few details like:

  • The exact version of macOS & Illustrator 2022
  • Where are your files & links saved (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System/ External HDD)?
Does moving the files to Desktop help?
  • Is this happening with some specific files or all?
  • Would you mind sharing a small recording demonstrating the issue?

We are here to help. We just need more info.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini

Hello

I will try doing a video when I get back at work.

I have MacOS BigSur 11.6
Files are on the internal drive of 1T.
It's happening almost in all files. I was working on a logo, which is all vector, no embedded images, and just moving things around was terrible. It's a file that I created from scratch, not from another computer. Plus all my fonts we're converted to vector. So not like I had some font issues. Most of the fonts I use come from Adobe anyway.

Try changing the options in the Performance panel in Preferences. I have an ARM Mac, so my performance preferences might look different from yours. See if turning off GPU Performance and Real-Time Drawing and Editing makes a difference.
