Illustrator cannot relink files, crashes

New Here ,

I can make a document, put in any file I want and there is no issue, but as soon as I close it and re-open it, I get the relink error. Trying to relink the file gives me the same error, and ignoring it causes Illustrator to crash. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling and restarting my computer. No luck

Hello @Avery28546326ka6i,

It seems the linked files are placed in a directory that is synced using a file-sharing service like OneDrive. Would you mind moving them to a different folder to see if it helps?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Same issue with local or synced files. Also the issue is specific to Illustrator, the same files work fine in photoshop.

I would avoid placing jpeg, adn use .PSD instead. I see you haevconcoet boards so the quality of lossy compression is not an issue, but for an example one single CMYK jpg can cause issues like that. There really is no reason for a CMYK jpeg, but it is allowed.

I cannot see your filenames, but be careful of using non-alphanumeric characters.  Slashes and colons  and additional periods outside the file extension separator should never be used. Most others characters like underscores, parenthesis, dashes are ok.
