Illustrator CC 2017 freezing and crashing constantly

New Here ,
Dec 16, 2016 Dec 16, 2016

I recently updated all my Adobe apllications to the 2017 versions. Since I have done that Illustrator has become unusable. After I start working in a file, the app freezes after a few minutes and I have to manually shut it down. This is very annoying. Someone knows a solution to my problem?

Which system?

Are you using any third party plugins?

Any font management tools?

Any external input hardware? Are the drivers compatible?

Is a printer connected and turned on?

Where are your files located? And the linked files?

This happens to me as well. Also, when I open a document in Illustrator, then I close the program and I try to erase that document, Windows doesn't allow me to erase it because it says there is a program (Illustrator) using it.

I'm using Adobe Cloud, the files are located to a HDD, and I have Windows 10.

Thank you very much.

I have a laptop running windows 10.

I am not using any plugins or font management tools.

The only thing connected is a wireless mouse, but I never had any trouble with it earlier so I doubt it is now.

As far as I know the drivers are compatible.

My printer is not connected.

My laptop has two hard drives, illutsrator saves files on the (c:) drive.

It might be related to the printer not being connected.
Please connect it and turn it on.

It might also be an issue that has been addressed in an update that is currently being beta tested.

See this thread for a link to beta test: Re: opening a file * .ai an error "the operation can not complete because of an unknown error [x! Fd...

Also: can you save to the other drive and does it then work better?

In that case: check your drives. Access privileges might also be an issue

I'm having the same problem. I'll be working in Illustrator and it will just freeze and I have to force close. Luckily, the Recovery function is alive and well and I haven't had to start over but it's very annoying and I'm unproductive.

I'm also working in Windows 10.

The recent Illustrator update to fix stability issues doesn't seem to have worked.

I am having the same issue.  I can work for about 20 minutes and then it freezes on me.  This has been happening for the past 2 weeks and it is causing major problems for me to get work done on time.  I MUST have this fixed.  I am sick of restarting my computer over and over only to get 20 minutes of work done.  SOMEONE out there contact me please.  I don't have the ability to fix this on weekdays, because I work long hours at a job with no ability to contact Adobe.  The weekends are it as far as help.  I am having NO other problems with ANY other software or my hard drive.  Thank you.

I was having this issue on my new work computer and worked with IT for a week to try to fix it without any luck. I then found a forum that stated that some versions of NVIDIA drivers (I have a Quadro Series one) don't communicate well with Microsoft that there is an update needed for the GPU card. I clicked the link provided and updated the driver and have not had a problem since (I did this yesterday morning). The link I used for the Quadro Series was: NVIDIA DRIVERS Quadro Desktop/Quadro Notebook Driver Release 352 WHQL

For the full article/ updates for other graphic cards: System requirements | Adobe Illustrator

Hope this helps!

I believe the information that nb2017 provided is correct in thinking this is related to the GPU. I am having the same issue on a two Titan X (Pascal) in SLI; Because NVIDIA default program setting are not always the best and you are all up to date on your drivers. I suggested looking in to your GPU setting, both in the preferences and default settings. In either event, this seems to the GPU hanging and crashing the program after certain large memory operations are copied onto the GPU and not being purged. i.e. copying, loading, etc in the GPU memory.
