Illustrator CC 2018 - Artboard automatic placement

New Here ,

Hi guys,

I've recently updated my Illustrator CC 2018 and there is a new feature (although I'm unsure if it's a bug!) which occurs when I click the new artboard icon.

Usually when clicking new artboard Illustrator shows a hovering artboard which then lets you place it where you like - however since this update the new artboards automatically place directly right of the original.

Please help, it's really annoying!

• I've tried Ticking 'Use Legacy "File New" interface' following advice, however this does not resolve it

• Also, within the 'Artboard Options' panel I cannot find a solutionScreen Shot 2018-01-18 at 17.35.22 (OLD WAY).pngScreen Shot 2018-01-18 at 17.39.47.png

Yes, this has been changed. Intentionally or not, I don't know.

Now you have to move the new artboard after it was placed on the scratch area.

The above image is taken from the Adobe instructions article > How to set up multiple artboards in Illustrator.

This make me think (and hope) that the "automatic placement" could be a bug, just because, if it wasn't, Adobe would have removed the option from its instructions

I hope we will receive an answer sooner or later.

This problem is compromising.

Creating the artboards and then moving them can be a problem because the artoboards don't follow the "snap to grid" (and similar "snap"), so the file could lose accuracy and precision.

you have more faith in Adobe's documentation than i do. it seems like an intentional change. i would make a post about it here if you want it changed back:
