I have spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to figure out what is going on here. In my illustrator file, I have a color palette. When I pull in a photo from Photoshop, my colors change without warning. What is going on? I have checked the Color Settings and both are in sRGB. Why would this be happening and how on earth do I prevent it from happening again?
After looking into it more, it appears as though when I drop in the image, it's changing the assigned profile. So, when I click Edit > Assign Profile, the profile changes to ProPhoto RGB. This makes more sense now. I need to make sure that the assigned profile in Photoshop is the same.

The video is barely legible. How are your color settings in Illustrator?
Which color mode does the document have?

So something else I tried was first pulling the photo from Photoshop first, and then dropping in my color palette second. When I did this, I got a warning:
What I don't understand about this warning is that I've already confirmed that the color profile is sRGB IEC61966-2.1 and not ProPhoto RGB.

What happens when you first save the photo and then place it in Illustrator?
And also: the color profile of your AI document is not necessarily the same as your working profile. So which is it?

You should set up your color management more consciously. Where does that ProPhoto even come from?
