Illustrator could partially read file latest update 26.0.3

I can't open a file, with several artboards, I hade been working on even when I restore it from my Time Machine backup. I can drag the .ai file into acrobat and can create a PDF but can't open that PDF in illustrator. I uninstalled illustrator and reinstalled it, that didn't fix the problem. Do I need to reinstll a lower version of illustror to be able to open this file?

I need to figure this out ASAP.

I read in other posts this problem is resolved with a Windows update.
