I’m experiencing an issue with Adobe Illustrator where I cannot copy anything. Both Ctrl+C and right-click > Copy cause the software to crash immediately. This has been happening repeatedly throughout the day.
Could you please advise on the cause and any possible solution? It’s really frustrating that Illustrator can’t handle such a basic function like copying without crashing.
Hello @Nadia37972677f0tk,
We have received reports from several customers that the latest Windows Defender security intelligence update - 1.435.148.0 has potentially fixed this issue.
Could you try installing the update and letting us know if it helps?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Just starting today, I'm running into the same issues. I try to copy and paste, and AI crashes. This happens on earlier versions as well. I'm running Windows 11 Enterprise, Version 22H2, OS build 22621.5624, Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1106.0.
This is super frustrating, as I am up against deadlines.

I've had this issue for about a week now, crashes every time I try to copy by using right click and also ctrl-c.
Edition - Windows 11 Enterprise
Version - 24H2
Installed - 13/11/2024
OS build - 26100.4770
Also have Windows snipping tool.

Safemode fixes the problem but no good for what I need to do.
I'm using....
PC: HP Z2 Tower G9 Workstation
Edition: Windows 11 Enterprise
Version: 24H2
Installed: 17-02-2025
OS build: 26100.4652
Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.128.0
RAM: 64 gb
Processor: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900K (3.00 GHz)
Apps: Microsoft Snipping tool but no other 3rd party clipboard or window management apps or services.
This is a work machine and our IT system run regular updates so my illustrator version is the latest and my colleague who shares the Adobe license is not experiencing the same issues. I noticed the issue yesterday and has basically stopped me being able to do my job today.
I've updated my Nvidia drivers this morning, I have restarted regularly today (and do so once a week - I shutdown every night) and all updates (as I say my IT team are rigid) are up-to-date.

if it helps.... I've just re-tried in safemode with the document i was using and it crashed. With a little more testing it seems I can create new content in safemode and it's okay but if I try Alt+drag from a previous document onto the new it will crash when I try copy and pasting again (it doesn't matter if this is a symbol, text, graphic or anything, where as new file = no problem). I did find that if it managed to recover (which 9 times out of 10 it hasn't- but when it did - then I had no issue as long as I stuck to what was already created in that file).

A side note, when it crashes after trying to copy until the report sender is closed and it is able to fully crash copy and paste functionality is tied up and doesn't work in any other programs either. Can take a screenshot still, which is interesting.

Hello, I began seeing this problem this morning for the first time and immediately went to check to see if there had been any updates. I was able to update Illustrator to version 29.7.1 and I am still experiencing full crashes when attempting to copy or cut.

I am also still having this issue. Updated to 29.7.1 (latest version available to me). Not trying to copy anything complicated - just a basic shape.

Agree with all the others, I had already updated to 29.7.1 this morning - so my comments I've made in here are since then.
I have however noticed I can copy text to rename assets in the asset box - but that is it.

Nope. Same here. 29.7.1 is not solving the issue.

Same issues on 29.7.1. Issues started 8/1. 4 people with AI, only 2 experiencing the issue.
Cleared Clipboard. Resintalled app. Created new Local Windows profile. Adobe support cleared some temp files.

Despite the improvements in Illustrator 29.7, the application still crashes consistently when copying any content from the artboard. This issue is severely impacting productivity and needs to be addressed as a priority. A prompt resolution would be greatly appreciated.
