Illustrator Crashes When Copying - Illustrator 29.6.1 / Win 11

I’m experiencing an issue with Adobe Illustrator where I cannot copy anything. Both Ctrl+C and right-click > Copy cause the software to crash immediately. This has been happening repeatedly throughout the day.

Could you please advise on the cause and any possible solution? It’s really frustrating that Illustrator can’t handle such a basic function like copying without crashing.

Due to security measures, I cannot disable Defender. Please create a way to use Illustrator with them on.

Adobe Support remotely accessed my laptop, uninstalled all Adobe apps, ran the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner tool, and then reinstalled both the latest and older versions. I also tried uninstalling the most recent Windows updates, disabling MS Defender, and updating the graphics driver to the latest version, but the issue still persists. Strangely, other apps like InDesign and Photoshop work fine when I do copy and paste.

A third artworker in our studio - working remotely - has now today (Fri 08 Aug) developed this Copy Crash issue.
And I repeat - we are using 28.4.1 - it's not just 29.x that is affected

I just installed the Illustrator update that appeared in my Creative cloud 5 mins ago, unfortunately this is still happening. Any update when this will be fixed? It makes working in Illustrator very difficult. thanks

Dear Adobe... You can add another frustrated Adobe Illustrator to the complaint department. Like other users, this problem has started in the last 48 hours (today is August 8, 2025). I work on a Microsoft Surface in a corporate, security protected environment and Illustrator is 95% of my workday. I CAN NOT COPY OR PASTE WITHOUT ILLUSTRATOR CRASHING! I have installed no new software this month. I am running Windows 10 Enterprise with an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6820HQ CPU @ 2.70GHz 2.71 GHz

Are you on a Dell?  A couple of people in this community have stated they're on Dell computers and the issue has started after a Dell update. I'm on a Dell as well with this issue but not sure of when my latest update was.  Just wondering if that's a factor.

I am on Lenovo, Windows 11, and the problem started for me in the middle of the morning. During work on an illustration suddenly every copy or cut causes a crash. There was no update of either windows, illustrator or lenonvo . I tried reinstalling older or the newest illustraor and problem persists

This is an urgent issue for all concerned. Please find a fix as soon as possible.

I've been uninstalling and reinstalling all versions starting from 29.7.1 till 29.5 - they all have the same issue.
It crashes when I cut or copy. Disabling defender / security is not a realistic thing to ask and impossible in an enterprise envoirment. Don't put users at risk for the benefit of your troubleshoot.

A lot of people are in environments where disabling windows security is not an option, and admin priveleges to make such changes are well out of reach.

Working in safe mode or disabling Defender is not an option for the hundreds of designer in my organization. Please provide a patch as soon as possible as this issue is wreaking havoc for our entire creative division.

My company will not allow me to work in Safe Mode.

In addition to this issue I have had a notification that "Adobe Acrobat 2017 has reached end-of-support."  
These messages started popping up at about the same time fraome as the "copy crash" issue.
is it possible that they are related?

Two out of five of my members are experiencing this issue today.
Due to company restrictions, we are unable to work in Safe Mode. We've tested multiple versions of Illustrator 28 and 29, and none of the suggested workarounds have resolved the problem.

We are all using Windows 11 Enterprise, version 23H2, with identical PC setups (Dell Precision 7680).

Kindly escalate this issue for prompt resolution, as it is significantly affecting our ability to work.

Update: As of today 11-Aug-25 ALL teammembers in my department are facing the copy-crash issue. Crash report is sent. Adobe, PLEASE ESCALATE!

Update: I encountered the same issue again earlier today, but surprisingly, copy/cut is now working without causing Illustrator to crash! I’m cautiously optimistic, it’s functioning for now, but I still feel a bit anxious each time I need to copy something. Fingers crossed it continues to behave.

Just to note: I haven’t rolled back any settings or installed new updates. I’m currently running version 28.0 on Windows 11 Enterprise.

i have a problem with illustrator, when im trying to copy and paste (Ctrl+V or paste in place Ctrl+F) object, program opens the error window and closes file. Help me to solvee the issue please.

Same here, can't find anything special in event log either.

We have 3 team members that can't really work. In the error report you get some kind of access violation.

I am also experiencing this issue. Copy function works fine in other applications. I reinstalled windows as it flagged faulty .dll file. It worked ok after install but it is now doing it again. Very frustrating
