I’m experiencing an issue with Adobe Illustrator where I cannot copy anything. Both Ctrl+C and right-click > Copy cause the software to crash immediately. This has been happening repeatedly throughout the day.
Could you please advise on the cause and any possible solution? It’s really frustrating that Illustrator can’t handle such a basic function like copying without crashing.
Hello @Nadia37972677f0tk,
We have received reports from several customers that the latest Windows Defender security intelligence update - 1.435.148.0 has potentially fixed this issue.
Could you try installing the update and letting us know if it helps?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Any updates from Adobe on this? Feels like we're being left hung out to dry here.

Latest version now allows me to copy - BUT - only on brand new files.
Anything that has already been created or saved in any other version of Illustrator still has the same crash issue. Even doing a 'save as' and creating a new version of the file still retains the copy crash.

I am also having the same issue where Illustrator crashes whenever I press (Ctrl + C) or (right-click + copy). I use:
1. Windows 11 Enterprise
2. I do not have any third-party apps or window management, only snipping tool. This is a company computer and I have a Wacom tablet plugged in.
I installed an older Illustrator version 29.5 and it still didn't work. The last time I used Illustrator and it did work was July 17, 2025 version 29.7. I will not be able to work on my project deadlines until this is fixed...
Let me know if there are any solutions!

Having the exact same issue whilst others on my team are not.
I can open documents fine, but if I try to use the copy command from the 'Edit' dropdown, or use the keyboard shortcut, Illustrator instantly crashes.
Weirdly, if I have a document open that I already worked on, then open a new document and remove them both from the docked view so that I can see both documents side by side, I can hold ALT and copy from one document to the other without a problem.
This is super frustrating. We all have artwork assets that need delivering for clients and Adobe can't even get a Copy command to work correctly!

If you are the only person on the team that has this problem, then probably your computer is the cause of it?
Do you reboot regularly?
Did you already try resetting the preferences?
Do you have anything installed that "enhances" the clipboard?
Generally what is the difference between your computer and the others' computers?

Reboot every evening (full shut down after every work day).
Reset preferences - tried in multiple versions from the latest back to the last build of v28
Nothing that enhances clipboard.
Exact same machines as the rest of the team. Only difference was that I was already on the latest build of Illustrator, but looking at some of the other comments it doesn't seem to really matter which version. I've tried about 5 versions back of v29 and also the last build of v28.
Seems like once it's affected the issue sticks.

I shut down my computer every day after work. And restart regularly.
Today after the updat to 29.7.1 the problem is still there.
Ctrl+C and Ctrl+X or right-click > Copy, the software crashes immediatly.

Hi there,
Having the same issue since today, because i used Illustrator last saturday and it was ok. BTW, i just update the app in order to try to fix the crash but didn´t help. So i was working with 29.6.1 version on saturday (no problems at atll) but the same version started crashing today.
Everytime i try to cut/copy something to the clipboard the software freezes/crashes.
Thanks for any help.

I am experiencing the same, long delays in deliverying my work. Two days already. I updated it to 29.7.1, I removed the old one with adobe removal tool, reinstalled from scratch, nothing works. Copy and paste is a very simple command. I've been using alt and drag but I can't do it across different files. I've been adding what I want to copy to my library and opening it in another AI file, that works but it's ridiculous I can't simply Copy and Paste. I have sent dozens of crash reports. Please fix this. Thanks

If you open both files side by side, Alt+drag does let you do move objects between the two files. Doesn't fix the problem but certainly helps.

Thanks for the suggestion. Using the files in tile and using Alt drag across them works beautifully. It helped me a lot! Thank you. Hopefully they will fix the issue.

Thank you for this suggestion... it works but WOW it's time consuming and not optimal so I hope Adobe can get a resolution fast tracked because "copy" is SUCH a basic command and apparently I use it on every single file that I work on because I forget to "alt-drag" and then the program crashes - so frustrating!

You can copy subjects with the tool "move" (Shift-Ctrl-M) and choose the option "copy"

Dear @Anubhav M
I hope you're doing well. I wanted to bring to your attention a critical issue affecting our design team. Out of the five designers, two are currently experiencing the same technical problem, and I’m concerned that the remaining team members might encounter it soon as well. This has caused a complete halt in our work since last week.
Despite multiple troubleshooting attempts, including full system reboots, the issue persists. I’ve already raised a ticket through the company portal, but we haven’t received any response yet, even after several follow-ups.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could provide a solution soon.
