Hi,
We have been using Illustrator latest version in a Windows 10 pro 32GB Ram with SSD desktop PC.
Since recently, while we work on many .PNG files and PNG.TMP$$$ types files are created inside the working folder. PNGs are created as 1.PNG, 2.PNG....211.PNG and within same folder 1.PNG.TMP$$$, 2.PNG.TMP$$$.....211.PNG.TMP$$$ likewise around 400 files are appearing. What could be the cause of this?

Hi @Sabsab59,
Thank you for getting in touch again and sharing the required information. I appreciate your efforts. To assist you further, could you please provide me with the full location where the files are saved? This will help me replicate the issue on my end and investigate it more thoroughly.
As Kevin suggested, would you mind packaging the Ai file and making it a zip file before sharing it with us? When you package the file, all the linked files, images, or documents used in the file will be included. Please note that this step is important because it will help us to better understand the issue and provide you with an accurate solution.
Additionally, can you confirm if you are using the Pantone Connect plugin? Many other users have reported similar issues after using that plugin, so it would be helpful to know if it's causing the issue in your case. This information will be essential for further investigation.
Thank you once again for your cooperation. I look forward to hearing back from you soon.
Best,
Anshul Saini

Hi @diegoinmune,
I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue and it's causing you inconvenience. I understand how frustrating it can be when something unexpected starts happening out of nowhere.
It's good to know that you are not working on a network, server, service, or external drive and have not installed the Pantone Connect plugin.
To further investigate the issue, have you tried resetting preferences in Illustrator? Additionally, is this happening with every single file or a specific one? If it's happening with a specific file, please package it and zip it, then share it with us so we can investigate further.
Let us know if you have tried resetting preferences and if the issue is still persisting. We'll do our best to help you resolve the issue.
Best,
Anshul Saini

Dear Anshul
I finally succeed in uploading my AI files (it didn't work in .zip or .7z)
But sorry I don(t understand what U mean by "full location where the files are saved"?
And how cld I check if there's Pantone Plugin in my setting?

Hi @Sabsab59,
Thank you for sharing the files. I apologize for the inconvenience; I was unable to replicate the issue using the attached PNG or JPG files. To further investigate, we would need the original AI files and their corresponding location on your computer. The "full location where the files are saved" refers to the path or full directory on your computer where the files are stored. Knowing this information will help us replicate the issue more accurately.
To check if the Pantone Connect plugin is installed, you can go to the Windows menu > Extensions and look for any references to Pantone Connect.
Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we investigate the issue.
Best,
Anshul Saini

I just had the same issue with nearly 3000 folders created, all empty and duplicates of all of those as temp files. It looks like they all have successfully been deleted, but still wonder where this came from and why.
Mine seemingly showed up when I exported as a png, but I haven't been able to duplicate the issue. Maybe just a bug, but still weird!

We just noticed this problem happening. I deleted folders 1.png through 9.png and the corresponding tmp$$ files. This is not an acceptable bahavior for a program. We are using updated Creative Cloud versions of the software on a Windows 10 computer.

Hello - I am having the same issue - I had to delete over 16,000 files yesterday (tmp files and their respective 'empty folders' which took a long time and slowed down the Sharepoint shared drive for me and my colleagues. Please supply a solution ASAP because I don't have time to keep deleting thousands of these files every day.

If you're working with network files and the network is slow, you can optimize your file operations by setting the following preference:
Preferences > File Handling & Clipboard > Optimize File Open and Save Time on Slow Networks (Beta).
When this preference is enabled, if you save a file to the network, a temporary file is created to optimize the time taken for saving the original file. This temporary file will be automatically deleted when file save on the network is complete.
Known issue: Temporary files are not automatically deleted when the network has some connectivity issues.
Workaround: Work on network when the network connectivity is consistent.

Hello @lindam0213 @Zach_from_Inikosoft,

Thank you for the idea, this fix seems to be focused on the temp file that Illustrator creates when saving a file. This does not address the subject of the problem as I understand it. I know the temp files you speak of, they appear and sometimes do not auto delete but are for the most part, innocolous. The thousands of folders and matching "#*.tmp$$" files that are being created in a folder on my computer are somewhat more annoying and seem almost malicious in their number and distribution. When I have to delete them, the entire admin team in my dropbox account gets a notification of a mass deletion event. Once again thank you for taking the time but I do not beleve that this is a fix for the problem I was trying to help report.

Its a sync issue with remote services like dropbox. Turn off auto sync while working and the temp files can auto delete.

Taking a poll, are you storing your working files on your local computer or are you using any type of cloud service like Dropbox?

I work locally then sync to my cloud service. If I work out of my synced folder with sync turned on all my files create temp files that are then synced and stuck. This includes Excel, Word, Illustrator, etc.

Also having the same issue. Seems to have started when I installed the Pantone app / extension a couple of weeks ago. Never happened prior to that. Coincidence?
