Illustrator file saved as ".com" extension & it is not opening after changing the extension to ".ai"

I accidentally saved my AI file with a business web address which ends in .com (MS-DOS application). Now I can't access my file. Any way to recover this file as I've had a lot of work put into it.

Thank you

Fix the name without the .com and rename the extension to .ai?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about that. As @Ton Frederiks suggested changing the extension of the file should have worked.

I would request to share a few more details like:

  • OS and version of Illustrtaor
  • Where did you save the file (Cloud Document/ Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System/ External HDD)?
  • Share the file with us, and we will try to recover it. You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link here or via DM. But I must inform you that file recovery can't be guaranteed with 100% success. But, we'll surely try our best.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini

Hi,
I was also faced same problems and just recovering it simply renaming it to (.ai) and then drag and drop to illustrator (which was opened in background). After that save file from "Save As" and it was recoered. .... Try this way..
