Illustrator files doesn't show up in smart folder if the search criteria is set to "recently opened" in MAC OS

I have made a "smart folder" in macOS Finder that shows recently opened files, but for some reason it won't show .ai files. I think this is an Adobe/CC-related problem and not caused by MacOS, beacuse after a little googling, other Adobe file types seems to be affected by the same issue. The .ai files do show up in the smart folder if Illustrator is running, but will eventually disappear after I quit the application. The problem seems to be specifically related to the "recently opened" search criteria for the the smart folder, becuase they do appear if I set the search criteria to "recently changed" instead. Is it possible to change this behavior?

The problem seem to have resolved itself. The .ai files have consistently appeared in the smart folder the last three days. Can't tell you if I have done anything - automatic updates maybe? Anyway, in case other have a similar problem, my current (working) configuration is:

  • MacOS 10.14.4
  • Illustrator 23.0.3
  • Files are stored in various folders under home directory on system disk.
  • User is Admin.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. As you mentioned, if you set the search criteria to "recently changed" instead of "recently opened" Illustrator files show up. This looks more like operating system issue and there is no way we can change it within the application.

To look deeply into this issue, I would request if you can share s a few more details like:
