I have the issue that objects align to guides in a completely arbitrary manner—sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. I’ve tried all the standard solutions except for reinstalling the software. The guides themselves work, but just not consistently. I’ve had this problem for 3-4 years, and with every update, it occurs more frequently. As a core functionality, this is no longer acceptable. It’s frustrating. Attached is a video that explains more than a thousand words. I hope I’m not the only person on the planet dealing with this problem.

Our team has tried fixing this problem in the latest Illustrator (beta) release. Could you try installing Illustrator (Beta) v29.6 from the Creative Cloud Desktop app and share your observations?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

It looks pretty good so far. After a brief test, I can say that it’s significantly better, but still not as good or precise as before. This is particularly noticeable with more complex and grouped elements: when the visible area is a bit larger, there is still confusion about which line or edge should be used as the reference point. That means I always have to zoom in a lot, even on rectangular outer lines, to make sure that the most logical choice-the outermost path-is actually used. As soon as I have three or four objects in my field of view, seemingly random lines are chosen as reference points.

Hello @Elias16B8,
Thanks for sharing the screen recording. Could you try adjusting the Snapping Tolerance for Smart Guides under Illustrator's preferences to see if it helps with your workflow?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
