Hi,
Running a new machine, pretty powerful workstation, i7, 7th Gen processor, 16GB Ram, NVidia Geforce GTX 1060.
Yet the project I am working on had gone slow at times. File size is currently 53MB. Many linked files from my library. I did also have around 10 linked jpegs where I've done a screen snip, copied the file and pasted it directly into the illustrator project. When they were all in the project it was over 65mb. I have since removed them to see if they were the issue. It is still slow.
Given the hardware is probably not the issue and I've experienced this before where project size gets large and illustrator starts crashing all the time and hanging. Is it the way I am working that is the problem?
As an aside, this project started crashing on the same day Windows updated to 1703.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Billywhizz,
As per your query, a specific file which has too many linked files and pasted images document hangs. As you shared that there are so many images from libraries that means your file is accessing links through the network, please check if it works fine with files from the desktop?
Also, I would request you to please share more information like :
Operating System(Exact Version of Windows or MAC)
Exact Version of Illustrator.
Does this happen only with one file? if yes, would you mind sharing your file?
Where the file is saved(System, network drive or library)

When you brought the images from library did you?
If you removed the images from your .ai file and your computer is still slow, i would save and quit, then check your Adobe Cloud app if anything is erroring, then open the file and see who fast this goes.
Can we see a screen shot of your links palette after you deleted the items and your artwork. We need to really analyze the whole scenario to give you a good reply. And what exactly is slow? (e.g.: screen redraw, saving, closing).
If you are placing .jpgs, I assume you are doing digital work, not print. I personally prefer to do my bitmapped web work in photoshop when possible as the preview is more accurate on the finer details.

Hi Billywhizz,
Please update the discussion if the issue is resolved or if you have any further query.
