Illustrator isn't saving any of my documents even after saving them before exiting

For the past three days ive lost my work because illustrator isn't saving them even though it says it does before i close,, i've saved them in the cloud and on my desktop but when i go to open the files they are no where to be found and the work it shows saved is from two days prior, its like the last 24-48 hours get erased for some reason. I've gone through the steps to recover but the folders where the files should be are empty and do not have my files in them. I'm beyond frustrated right now and really need someone to help me solve this problem. Has anyone else expierenced this? if so what is going on? thank you

Have you tried turning off Save in Background in Preferences?

Sometimes this happens after restarting the system. Try to save the current artwork as PDF, then open Preferences (Ctrl/Cmd+K) and press "Reser Preferences". Restart Illustrator. This must help.
