Illustrator v29.7.1 (and few others) | NOT updating links AUTOMATICALLY...

Community Beginner ,

Hi everyone.

I've been having a problem for a few versions of Illustrator. I didn't have this problem before.
After linking a PSD file and selecting the option in the settings (FILE HANDLING > UPDATE LINKS - AUTOMATICALLY), Illustrator doesn't update the links; it only does this once every three times.

I am sending a video recording in the attachment, where on the left is the Illustrator file and on the right the PSD file, after changing the location of the red square and saving it in Photoshop, Illustrator does not always update it.

Does anyone have a solution?

My computer is Mac Studio M4, system is Sequoia 15.5.

Hi @Hektorrr,

Thanks for sharing the details and the video. Could you try disabling GPU Performance from Illustrator Preferences > Performance and check if that minimizes the issue with the links not updating? Also, please confirm if both your PSD and AI files are stored locally on your Mac and not on an external drive or a cloud‑synced folder.

Additionally, please try testing the issue in macOS Safe Mode to isolate any delays caused by third‑party extensions or background software: https://adobe.ly/4oiRYBD

Looking forward to hearing your observations after these checks.

Abhishek

Hi Abhishek,

Still this same... 😞

And the data is on the main computer not in cloud.

I checked now on another computer (MB Air M2/Sequoia 15.5/Illustrator 29.6.1 laptop) and it's exactly the same...

Hi @Hektorrr,

Thanks for checking those steps and for testing on another machine as well. I’d like to rule out any corruption or preference conflicts. Please try resetting Illustrator preferences and see if that changes the way links are updated. Also, let me know if this happens consistently with all linked PSD files or only with specific ones, and if the update happens instantly when you manually refresh the link from the Links panel. Please also test this in a new admin local user account on you macOS. Reference: https://adobe.ly/4opoTo6

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Hi Abhishek,

The problem occurs with all types of PSD files, small and large. For RGB and CMYK.

After manual refresh it works.

Unfortunately, I did everything you told me to do and no change ;(

I did this on both computers and no change.

Hello @Hektorrr,

Thanks for confirming. Could you check if this happens with files stored in a particular folder location (internal/external/network drive or a cloud-synced folder like Google Drive/Dropbox/etc.)?

If not, kindly share a link to a sample AI/PSD file after uploading it to a file-sharing service, so we can try and replicate this on our end.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello @Hektorrr,

Sorry for the delayed response. It seems the link has expired. Would you mind resharing the file so I can check this with the product team?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
