I have just downloaded the newset version of Adobe Illustrator. Everytime i try to image trace, it comes up with the PARM error notification. I have tried uninstalling it and installing again. I have also gone back to old versions but nothing seems to work.

Need help with this for work

Thank you

So your issue is not Image Trace related?

Please create. a new thread.

Hi Guys,

I solved the error, go to edit-preference-plug-ins &...

update the scratch disks(disk "G" is the one that I install the AI)

Try and contact Customer Care and have them log into your system.

A possible solution is to rasterize the placed image. Menu > Objects > Rasterize.

After this you can trace image.

That is the workaround we are using now but it isnt as ideal as the function working as properly as it once did.

Hi @davidg50722430 @sandork97429273,

I'm sorry to hear that you're still experiencing a PARM error with Image Trace in Illustrator. We haven't been able to replicate this issue in our testing environment, so it would be very helpful if you could provide us with more information.

Could you please share the details of your system, including the operating system you're using?

Additionally, if you could provide a sample image that triggers the error while image tracing and a screen recording showcasing the issue, it would greatly assist our product team in investigating and resolving the problem.

By analyzing the sample image and your system setup, our team can attempt to replicate the error in a similar environment and work towards finding a fix.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. We're eager to assist you further and ensure a smooth experience with Image Trace in Illustrator.

Best,

I also have this issue. 27.2, tracing works fine. 27.3.1 or newer and it does not, but ONLY under certain circumstances. It seems to be fully dependent on the size of the image being traced.

Im on version 27.4.1 and I find that tracing crashes under these circumstances

In a new document, paste in an item from the clipboard that is a bitmap image that is less than 399x399 in resolution. Hit trace image and Illustrator will crash. If its 399x399 or larger it wont crash. Its only on smaller copy/pasted images that it crashes.

This also happens if I PLACE an image with the same dimensions in and then trace it. Rasterizing it before tracing fixes the issue but this is a hassle and this bug needs to be fixed.

Hi @davidg50722430,

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with Image Trace in Illustrator, especially with smaller images. It must be frustrating to have the software crash when working on your projects.

If you get Illustrator crash reporter on a crash, then would you mind submitting the crash report as suggested in this helpx article (https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/crash-next-steps.html)? This would help us investigate the crash.
While submitting the crash report, please use the same email address with which you are signed in on this community. This will help us find the crash report and assist accordingly.

Also, to better understand and diagnose the issue, would you mind providing the following information:

  • Confirm the operating system and its version that you're using.
  • Share a sample file that is causing the crash when tracing.
  • Provide a screen recording of the steps you're taking that lead to the crash.

Once you provide the requested information, we can further investigate the issue and try to find a solution for you. Your cooperation is much appreciated.

Best regards,

Anshul Saini

I am having the same issue, but not on all images.

Rasterizing the image in Illustrator seems to be a workaround, but I cannot figure out what the difference in the two files might be.

You might want to create a new thread and tell us your system info and also show us your problem files.

I am also having this problem. I have an entire computer lab  (32 iMacs) running the exact same specs, yet the problem is only happening on a couple of the computers. They are all set up the same.

macOS Catalina Version 10.15.7

iMac (21.5-inch, 2017)

16 GB 2133 MHz DDR4

Graphics Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 1536 MB

Illustrator Version 27.3.1

It doesn't matter what type of image I try, I've tried many. They all come up with the same error on just a few machines.

"An unknown error occured." click for more info. When I click on more info, it takes me to a "Fix Illustrator crash Issues"

It didn't crash, it is just that it won't complete this particular function - Image Tracing

I have also uninstalled and reinstalled on the machine having issues. It still didn't work.

I hope something can be figure out soon.

Update: I uninstalled Illustrator 2023 on the machine that was having problems, and reloaded the earlier 2022 version 26.5.3. Image tracing now works again. Out of the 32 iMacs in my classroom, only some of them have issues image tracing in Illustrator 2023. I wish I knew what is causing the problems on these specific machines, but I haven't been able to figure it out.

For now, I'll leave 2022 installed.

Hello @Alessandro24751029r69n,

I hope the problem is resolved by now. If not, kindly share a sample file (https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/share-your-files-in-6-simple-steps/td-p/12967531), so we can investigate this further and provide the appropriate solution.

Looking forward to your response.

Hello @Alessandro24751029r69n,

We understand that encountering technical issues can be frustrating. We are here to help and would like to suggest trying to reset Illustrator's preferences manually and checking if it helps:

For macOS
• Close all Adobe applications.
• Go to the following locations
• ~/Library/Caches
• ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe
• ~/Library/Preferences
• Rename Adobe Illustrator, com.adobe.illustrator and Adobe Illustrator 27 Settings folders to Adobe Illustrator.old, com.adobe.illustrator.old and Adobe Illustrator 27 Settings.old
• Launch Illustrator from the Creative Cloud.

Note: Location starting with this "~" sign indicates the User Library, which is hidden. So, you need to copy & paste the exact path in spotlight search or from Finder Menu > Go > Go to Folder > Paste the location in the dialog box like this:

For Windows
- Close all Adobe applications.
- Go to Location C:\Users\%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe
- Rename Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Illustrator 27 Settings folders to Adobe Illustrator.old and Adobe Illustrator - 27 Settings.old
- Relaunch Illustrator from Creative Cloud

Disclaimer: Please note that renaming preferences folders will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also save a backup of the folders in case you want to. The location is mentioned above.

Also, kindly ensure to install the latest OS/Illustrator updates. We appreciate your time and effort in helping us resolve this issue.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Anubhav

I'm having same problem, just repurchased AI and in most recent version. I cannot get a simple image to trace.

I tried renaming AI in settings. Any more ideas? I only purchased to redo a logo.
