Is it possible to start a new line at the endpoint of another, without joining?

I've got a project with LOTS of linework, and don't want lines to automatically join when I draw.

Is there a way to do that on the same layer?

TIA

click somewhere else near the desired position, hold down the mouse and press space, then move to where you want the point to be, release mouse and spacebar.
