Issue with "Scale Strokes and Effects"

Community Beginner ,
Mar 09, 2024 Mar 09, 2024

Hi! I am using illustrator now and I want to make my strokes not scalling as I am changing my illustration's dimensions because they are changing... So I went to Edit - Prefrences - General and I saw that the "Scale Strokes and Effects" was already unchecked but the strokes and effects were scaling... So I check the box "Scale Strokes and Effects" and now the strokes and effects are not scaling. This shouldn't be happening right..?

Your movie shows the correct behaviour. When Scale Stroke & Effects is checked, it scales the stroke.

When unchecked, it does not.

If you reboot the system - is it still happening?

If you reset the preferences - still happening?

If so: report it as a bug.

Can't reproduce your bug. its work as expected. You can set your ""Scale Strokes and Effects" or 'Scale Corners" off/on mode in Preferences as initial and default.  But in properties panel you can change it to toggle them on/off (these not depend how it was set in preferences)

So I open the properties panel and as I am changing on/off of the "Scale Strokes and Effects" it still has the same problem.. it works contrary to what I knew. When the "Scale Strokes and Effects" is "on" does not scale and when I turn it off it scales the stroke. Thanks for your response!

Does it give the problem in a specific file, or is it also reproducible in a new created document?

Hi and hanks for your response! It's also doing it in any new file. I try in different files both: creating a new line and copy the object from which I realized it first and still doing it.

Did you manually remove the preferences or only clicked the reset button?

If that does not work, try to de-install/re-install Illustrator if you have a version that is still available.

Sounds like your scale strokes and effects setting is doing the exact opposite. Have never heard of that happening, and the setting in the prefs file is as simple as either being a 0 or 1 for the setting inside the code of the prefs file.  I can't see for the life of me how this would happen, can you post a screenshot of before and after and how you are determining this, showing a stroke selected and the stroke panel.

Note both settings should change together here. You would have to close the sacel window for eh change to take effect.
