I've also only read him in English (and not much either)... can't read or write Bengali. Never lived here (Bengal) as a child...

Shunith,

Am I right in guessing that you are (still) saying புத்தாண்டு வாழ்த்துகள் in mid April?

At long last: the very first show this winter.

Scaringly enough, it may also be the last. The weather downcast is all about thaw and wet water, after one winter day.

A pal of mine just sent me this on FB.  I think it comes from the Great Lakes.

Compared to that it’s cosy here.

Minnesota, May, 2013. Google creeping ice and you'll find this video and others, including a news report on the destruction of houses in Minnesota and Manitoba.

This is us at the moment, with the temperature at 37F/2.8C.

I believe it is safe to say that creeping ice can be creepy.

But it may give more time to rescue someone and something than wet water at its worst.

At long last our scrubland has changed from greenery to whitery for more than a few hours, though still hardly mouse deep.

How is it elsewhere?

Here in Michigan, I have snow and ice breastworks on either side of my driveway worthy of any medieval siege. Built 'em myself, too -- one shovel-full at a time!

Well above freezing again for the umpteenth day in a row, sunny. Ice and snow have disappeared. Weirdest Alaskan winter I've ever seen. Haven't worn a winter coat in weeks.

Freezing most days since before Christmas. Not much snow just now but pavements and car parks are death traps unless you’ve got ice cleats (mannbroddar) on.

Indeed, Peter, time to mope.

I have seen the NAO switch our way at last, but alas, too little too late, at least for now. The glitter is gone already.

And now, just when I had plenty of snow photos ready to post here, it warmed up and started raining.

8°C yesterday and most of the snow has gone. Just treacherous ice left on pavements and footpaths.

Anyway, here are 2 of the snowy pictures for good measure:

I really like the colours you caught, Steve: no white in sight.

My camera has lost touch with its 75 - 300 mm lens (and its 28 - 70 mm lens).

With the sun only just skating above the horizon, snow is never white while the sun shines. Pink with blue shadows. 🙂

Lucky you, Steve. I could see from the photo(s) that the sun was (somewhere) in the south.

We only get those colours early and late, of course, white added in between, even at this time.
