Almost impossible to tell without seeing what's going on in your Appearance panel, but to hazard a wild guess,

I'd say that might you have a Blending Mode applied to the selected path.

You have an envelope.

And it has "Contents"

Whatever causes this, might be applied to the contents

Are you sure that the black rectangle is not the top most object?

Can you share a sample .ai file?

The issue can then probably be solved within a couple of minutes.

You don't share on the forum... upload to a file sharing site and provide the link so someone may download the file

You could upload to Creative Cloud assets which come with your subscription and provide a link, Or you may already use a service like Dropbox for storing and sharing files. There are usually free accounts for these services for smaller amounts of storage.

Just to be clear on what's happening: the red wavy thing is the vector art, and that blue wormy thing is just to indicate that any other color (like blue) renders fine on the black thing ? (It is still selected in your second image.) I'm also curious to get my hands on that file, in stead of offering a dozen speculations and suggestions. It must be simple...

Feel free to email me.

Select art vector, go to "Appearance", click on drop down arrow, change the blending mode from "overlay" or any other mode to "normal". Enjoy... Cheers
