Linking objects within same file.

I know you can place links to a different file, which will update when the other file does.

However what I need to do is place logos onto a mock-up tshirt. So ideally i want to create the design off to the side of the artboard, then create links to that object, re-scaling and tuning them to place them on the garment in multiple places.

This means that if the customer wanted to change the logo, I could just change the origional logo, and all the smaller linked ones would update.

Not sure if this can be done within a document itself. Or if there is a work around

You can create a symbol for the artwork and swap that out. To make a symbol from your artwork, select the artwork, open the Symbol panel, go to the panel menu in the upper right, and select New Symbol (or with the artwork selected, hit F8). You can create a symbol for the artwork and swap that out. To make a symbol from your artwork, select the artwork, open the Symbol panel, go to the panel menu in the upper right, and select New Symbol (or with the artwork selected, hit F8). You can leave the defaults of Movie Clip and Dynamic Symbol. It doesn't sound like you need 9-slice scaling, so you can leave that off. You can place an instance of your artwork on the T-shirt. Then when you want to replace the artwork, double-click the instance of the symbol, which will open it in Symbol Editing mode so that you can edit the symbol it references. Put the new artwork in the symbol. You can hide or delete the original artwork. Use the breadcrumb trail above the artboard or double-click somewhere off the artwork to return to your main document. Whatever modifications you applied to the instance will now affect the new artwork that you put in the symbol. Here's more info on symbols https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/symbols.html
