making an icon pattern.

I want to make a pattern as a background for my flyer.
I would like to put like diamond shapes or small keys in a regular pattern like wallpaper.
any ideas?

Draw your basic shapes, select them, then go to object > pattern > make, or open the Pattern options and do it from there:
