I think I got it by selecting one object with the Magic Wand which then isolated all the red.  I will try your method as well.

Another approach to try is if you use your solid arrow tool you can click on one red line to select it. Next, go to your top menu bar and choose "Select", then "Same", then "Stroke Color. This will select all red strokes and you can change the color to all red lines at once.
