no image preview in the layers Panel in AI

When dragging a graphic element to a new empty layer, there is no image preview in the layer square (row Size Medium Option in Layer Panel). When you add another element, a preview appears, but if you only have one element in a layer, you have to do extra steps to see the contents of the layer.

Hi @Kateryna_Shcheglova7394,

Thanks for sharing the details along with the screenshot. I tested this on my end with Illustrator 29.8.1 on Windows 11, and the preview seems to appear as expected. Could you confirm which version of Illustrator and which operating system you are working with? It would also be helpful to know if this happens only with this particular document or across other files as well. Please try creating a new document and check if the behavior is the same there. Additionally, I'd suggest resetting Illustrator preferences after creating a backup to rule out any corruption in settings: https://adobe.ly/3VKdVfW

Looking forward to your update.

Abhishek

Hi @Kateryna_Shcheglova7394,

Thanks for confirming the details. Could you please try resetting Illustrator preferences after creating a backup to rule out any corruption in settings: https://adobe.ly/3VKdVfW. It would also be useful to check if the same happens after creating a fresh test user profile in Windows to rule out account-specific issues.

Please give this a try and let me know how it goes.

Looking forward to your update.

Abhishek

LATEST

I can confirm the issue in the latest Windows version of Illustrator (29.8.2). Haven't tested it with the Mac version yet.

The Layer thumbnail preview does not get immediately refreshed when dragging a single object from an existing layer to a newly-created (empty) layer or sublayer.

The issue does not occur when dragging multiple (ungrouped) objects to the new layer.

When you move / transform the single object (or add another object) the Layer thumbnail preview will appear.

I'd say it's a bug.
