Not getting the handles to move position of text for Type on a Path Tool

I understand that I can move text along the path but the controls to do that are not appearing?

You need the select tool to do that.

I have selected the type on a path tool, highlighted the text but the movement handles do not appear. Is there another tool I need to use?

You want to use your Selection tool (V) to move the text using the controls (the start line, end line or center lime).

The thing gets weirder. In the document I'm working on the handles do not appear but if I copy and paste the same path with the text on it to another document the handles appear? Why won't the handles appear in the document I'm working on which is the latest illustrator CC.

Maybe Edges are hidden.

Once i move the start or end point I lose the handles. If i move the selection they come back

THey are only present with the selection tool (black arrow)

I add type to a path ( in this case a circle) Then select. Handles show everything is good at this point. If i move any of the points the handles go away.  However i move the selection they come back.

So the handles are gone when you edit the path itself? That is default behaviour, nothing unusual about that.

I am referring to the handles on the start and end points of the type. Not editing the path. Simply trying to move the text along the path
