Object moves when I click on it

New Here ,

[Moderator moved from The Lounge to Illustrator .]

Whenever I click on an object to select it, it jumps to the right. The same thing happens when I double-click a group to edit it. Any idea on how to fix this? I tried using a different mouse...

Are you using "RightZoom" - this could be the reason.

Hello @Simon Inkd,

We understand that encountering technical issues can be frustrating. Would you mind trying to run Illustrator under Safe Mode (Windows / macOS) and checking if it helps?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav

Have done so and again intermittently occurs. As soon as it occurs again I add a screen recording if I can.

My entire enterprise CC team (20+ designers) is experiencing this issue in Illustrator 28.4.1 and Indesign 19.4 -- we are all on Mac in different offices worldwide. Clicking on an object (vector, type, image) will randomly move the selection by 1 PX. This is just simply clicking on an object — it scoots. I suspect this is also related to another usability bug whereas, the selection tool acts like a magnet to the selection. Needless to say, we've all gotten used to undoing... often. It's painful dealing with the tools of our trade right now.

Which system? Sonoma?

Do you have the Magnet app installed or Rectangle?

Hi @RickerReeder,

It seems like both you and Pedro are experiencing a frustrating issue with Illustrator. Since you don't have the Magnet or Rectangle apps installed, it's worth considering other potential sources of interference.

One thing you could try is running Illustrator in Safe Mode (Windows / macOS) to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if any third-party apps or plugins are causing the problem. If the issue doesn't occur in Safe Mode, you can gradually open other apps or plugins to identify the culprit.

Additionally, if you're using any other third-party utilities or tools alongside Illustrator, try temporarily disabling them to see if that resolves the issue.

Let me know if running Illustrator in Safe Mode helps or if you need further assistance!

Best,

Anshul Saini

You need to reboot the computer in a certain way. Which way, depends on your system.

Ive also noticed that when this occurs double clicking on text  which would normally automatically change to the text tool and allow you to select type doesn't happen. Rather just continues to move the object.

Same problem here. (my movement is far more dramatic) So far the only solution is to save where I am at. quit app and reload the save file (and it works again).
