Object on a Path tool but rotate objects relative to artboard

Hello all,

Is there any way to rotate my objects and position them vertically relative to the artboard as opposed to the path using the new Objects on a Path tool? I need my objects to be placed on a path exactly the way the tool does, but I need them all individually to be straight up and down to the artboard. I can't seem to find a way to do that all automatically without detaching them once spaced along the path and setting every objects rotation to zero individually under Transform properties. I'd like to be able to do them all at once. Transform Each doesn't do this either.

TIA

Thank you for trying this. The second example in my image is the exact shape I need it to look like, but to achieve that I had to change the rotation of each number individually and set it to 0 in the transform panel. I was hoping for a faster/easier way to rotate all of the numbers so that they were all vertical but still follow the same shaped path. Object on a Path has rotation but only with respect to the path, not with the artboard. I have to detach the objects from the path and then rotate them as I described. Transform Each will not do it either.

Yes, I think I understood that.

Do you get the idea of my sample file that is using scatter brushes as objects on a path? You don't have to rotate each of them manually.

Sorry, I'm confused. You placed the 1's, then the 2's, then 3's then 4's and adjusted the spacing per number/brush?

Do you need this with numbers that you have as a font?

In that case text on a path should do.

I do use a font. I tried type on a path both vertical and horizontal, but I can't get the proper spacing that way. This project there are a certain number of objects in a shape, then those objects have to be numbered in order in groups of 4 . I downloaded a script that numbers them, but the placement isn't quite right and I don't have the skill to edit it to get the placement right.

You need to select the stairsteps to get the letters into the upright position and then in the Characters panel adjust the "tracking"

I've got the tracking I think, but I still don't know how to get the letters to be vertical in relation to the artboard.

This is the closest to what I need but it still needs a little manual adjustment of the spacing even after I adjust it like in the video. Thank you for your help. I will revisit this issue again since I have to make many similar diagrams. I would like to automate as many functions and save as much time as I can.

You're welcome.

The Type formatting can be saved as a Character or paragraph style.

You would have to save that into a template file so that it is in every new document.

Thanks so much for your help! I know there are many ways to do things in Illustrator, but given all the other variables I need to do in the process, this was the best way for me. I did have to take my path and divide it by "lobe" Basically I need the text to be sometimes on the inside of the circle and sometimes the outside so dividing the path helped to line up text with the other objects I needed them to.

One quick question: I am using live reflect to create this diagram since one side has to be the complete mirror opposite of the other side. This means my text on the other side will be upside down. Do you know of any way to rotate all the numbers (like Transform each) but keeping the path mirrored, but without expanding so that the text is still editable after rotating? Thanks again!

This is not path text, right?

Is it a chart?

It was path text with stair step, but I had to copy and reflect so to do that I had to expand one side. But if theres a way to do it without expanding to keep it editable that would be great.

Was thinking about scaling the characters horizontally by -100%, but unfortunately that is not possible.

It's not the end of the world. I just like to keep as much editable as possible in case I make a typo or something.

I'm a huge fan of keeping things editable, so I can totally understand you want this.

No, they are all attached at once without manually adjusting the spacing.

Would you mind terribly listing what you did to get this step by step? I can't seem to replicate what you did with the scatter brushes all on the same path. TIA

The brushes are applied to single anchor points. They contain live type.

Sample file: 1234 (2)

Instruction:

- Download, unzip and open the file.
- Select the numbers.
- Take the Objects on Path tool and click on the path below the numbers.
