This continues to happen randomly since upgrading to os Sequioa and it requires a full hard restart.  Wasting hours on restarts and losing work.

Sorry I was so frustrated that I forgot to add that i did delete the Illustrator preferences and restarted

I'm not aware of a general issue with an M2 (I have one myself, but just not with Sequoia). So it could be an issue with the new operating system, but there hasn't been a flood of issues either.

Does that happen immediately after opening the dialog box or only after you have clicked OK (in which case it could be an issue with the printer and it's settings).

Usually the save dialogue box never opens and the apple beachball spins and nothing ever happens until the os finder crashes and I have to restart.

You already had Illustrator installed when updating the system, right?

Maybe the system upgrade interfered badly with the existing installation, in which case it would make sense to uninstall Illustrator, run the Adobe Cleaner tool and install again. https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

That is a huge hassle. You could try first if perhaps this is related to something in your user account (on the computer) by setting up a new one (admin) and then boot into that and try.

You could also try and boot into Safe Mode and check that out.

You could try and disconnect from the internet and then check if it works. For creating a new file: when in the preferences > General you turn on the legacy file new dialog, does it work then?

I did have Illustrator completely installed before performing the os update.  I will see how it goes today and next try the reinstall and cleaner.  I will update.

I went an entire day yesterday without the crash.

My best guess is that the Mac os Sequioa issues a dialogue for allowing third party apps to access storage and external storage.  I finally got that approval window to come up for Illustrator (no idea why it didn't pop up first thing).  Once I approved Illustrator's access, the finder crashing stopped.

I believe you can pre-empt the crashing by going to settings:

navigate to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Files and Folders, then select the specific Adobe app and enable access to the desired locations on your external storage device

Perhaps someone could verify this?  Not much info on this out there that i could find.

It sounds like you’ve made an important discovery! The issue seems to be related to macOS Sequoia’s permissions for third-party apps to access storage, which caused Illustrator to crash when the save dialogue was triggered. Once you approved Illustrator’s access to storage, the crashes stopped.
