output mode grayed out when printing

Community Beginner ,
Aug 08, 2020 Aug 08, 2020

I have separated colors in a logo using spot colors.  When I go to print, the output mode is grayed out.  I have switched from using my canon pixma printer to using adobe postscript and the same thing happens.

Did you choose a PPD after selecting Adobe PostScript file as Printer?

When I did that the options were device independent or other.  When I chose device independent, it was still grayed out.  If I choose other, what do I select? Thank you

Did you unzip the file and select the ADPDF9.PPD?

Works here.

Which Illustrator/System version do you use?

Where do you save your Illustrator file?

If you change the ppd back to your printer ppd, is that still happening?

I have tried this and I am getting the same error the PPD is invalid or corrupt. I unzipped the file saved it in a desktop folder called PPDs, closed out of Adobe and it still isn't working. I am using the newest version of Illustrator. Any other ideas? Thank you!

I figured out mine was a printer issue. I had to find a RIP software to
solve it. My printer in an Epson XP-15000 and I had to go with PrintFab for
the software. Works amazing now. I am on a free 30 day trial. There are a
few different RIP software websites-google rip software-, you just need to
make sure they support your printer and you download the driver for it.
Hope this helps!

Is there an updated link to download this file? The one on that page gives an error that the file isn't available.

I am having the same problem as others.  My print Output option is grayed out.
The file that is in the linked page shows as being an empty file, so I need to find another way to get it.

Steve,

Didn't end up getting any help here, but did find a solution through some investigation and trial and error.

There are apparently two possible causes: the PPD file or Ink Manager settings.

The Ink Manager settings are pretty easy to fix.

Obtaining a PPD for your specific printer, however, may be a nightmare. I quite literally only got the one I needed about two weeks ago, and that was with the assistance of the person at work who manages the printers. We ended up needing to contact the printer manufacturer directly, as apparently Adobe does not supply the PPD files anymore. If you're lucky, you may just be able to download it right from the manufacturer website, but that will largely depend on the printer manufacturer, and in some cases, the printer itself.
