Pantone Solid Swatches Missing from 2023 update

Has anyone had any issues with the Pantone solid swatches missing in 2023? I just updated it and those are the only color books that are missing (and the ones I use the most). Can someone help me get them back?

It's worldwide. The same workarounds also apply though - you can still install prior .acb files in your folder to have them show back up in the software.

This is not allowed and so it probably won't happen on this forum. But if you search for them , you might find them online in blogs and other places.

I think you can still grab the Pantone color books from a previous version of Illustrator. Just install it from the Creative Cloud panel. Click on the three dots icon next to the "open" button. Choose "other versions" and that will bring up a list of prior builds of Illustrator 27 and Illustrator 26.

Way over my paygrade! Illustrator updated itself on my Surface so I don't think I can go back to previous version to grab the the Pantone Books. Pantone and Adobe have been sticking it to production folks. Try mixiong ink colors using the newest Formula Guides. Plus the fact that years ago they changed the order of colors so it was easier for designers to select colors. What a mess. It would be awsome if someone could pull the two color books and make them available to us "older" folks.

Just follow the instructions in the post above yours or search the web for .acb color libraries.

@mrjrick to be clear, Pantone has been sticking it... not Adobe.

At least Adobe has offered workarounds to help users get past this situation.

Otherwise you can search the internet – people have posted .acb and .aco files for download on other respective sites.

Install the still available older version.

Grab the Pantone books from it

Save them in a secure place AND install them in your current version.

I saw an email ad earlier today from Corel, promoting its latest version of CorelDRAW. The sales angle of this ad was the latest Pantone colors are included at no extra charge. They're promoting this as a great new feature even though these swatch books have been included for no extra charge in various graphics applications for decades. I still believe the stunt Pantone is pulling will backfire on them -translating into fewer sales of their physical products such as color swatch books.

I've run into this problem as well and found this thread in my search to solve it. This is a real problem for designers. Pantone are shooting themselves in the foot to not support designers in accessing their colour books easily in Adobe design software. KEEP IT THE SAME AS BEFORE.

Everyone wants this, but it is not within Adobe's powers to make that happen. Pantone sets the conditions for licensing. Not everything can be had for money.

And they want to collect an extra $15 per month (or $180 per year) from Adobe software users, just for digital swatches that mean very little without the physical Formula Guide swatch books.

The physical swatch books cost $170-$220 on their own and need to be replaced from time to time. They recommend replacing them on an annual basis. I imagine the prices are even higher in Europe. I think Pantone could see the sales levels of their physical color swatch products drop. If the spot color libraries aren't present within the software they won't serve as a piece of advertising for the physical products. Out of sight, out of mind. The users who do subscribe to Pantone's services will likely run into workflow problems when sending artwork containing newer spot colors to other users or service bureaus choosing not to play along with Pantone's game.

Install the previous version. Grab the Pantone libraries from it and save them. Then copy them to your new version.
