Paste in Place not working properly

Explorer ,
Jan 07, 2022 Jan 07, 2022

This problem is not new for me, but it has been unbearable in this week to work with this tool. Sometimes it will work, some times it will NOT work for no reason. I selected the right artboard and did everything right as you can see in this video, but this glitch seems to come back time and time again.

In my Illustrator, paste-in-place is position based per the artboard. What artboard was active when you copied the art?

So the rulers are artboard based?

Sorry guys, aparently my reptilian brain didn't know that when copying you needed to also select the respective art board. As you can see in the video it was copyed from the 7th artboard, and the actually was in the 8th artboard.

I'm having the same issue; I always check the artboard where I need the paste in place to happen, so this was never the issue. It is frustrating because I don't know what to do; I'm using Illustrator 28.0 on a MacBook Air, 15' M2, MacOS Ventura 13.5.2, 24GB Memory. Please advise; I need this feature to be working. I appreciate any help you can provide.

Please can you exactly describe what is happening and show screenshots? Does the object paste at all? In which position? Are the artboard rulers on ?

Are you sure that no thirdparty software is interfering with your clipboard?

Hello,
.when I Paste in Place, it pastes on the same Artboard and not on the Artboard intended, although it is selected and the content copied has the layer and correct Artboard picked also;
.the rulers are on;
No third-party software at all; I never use it because I don't want conflicts to occur. This happens on and off. Not sure what is going on. Sometimes it works correctly, but, lately, it's always behaving like this.
I appreciate your concern.

Thirdparty software could be anything outside of Illustrator. Try this list:

  • Parallels Toolbox running with the Clipboard History
  • TeamVewer Clipboard > Use Shared Clipboard
  • Apple iOS device simulator from Xcode
  • Windows Multi-clipboard
  • Windows Clipboard History
  • Chrome Remote Desktop
  • Mouse Pointer Highlighter
  • AnyViewer
  • Pastebot app
  • Overzealous antivirus (Digital Guardian) as well as viruses that empty the clipboard

Hello,

I only use Adobe and FCP X.

No email service, no other apps than the Apps that come with Mac. I always keep the computer as clean and minimal as possible, regarding programs and sub-products. No Windows or Microsoft products either. Could it be a problem with the Mac? Since it is a new version?

Again, thank you for your help.

Is a browser open while you are working with Illustrator? That can be Safari, it's causing this as well.

But of course: try rebooting the computer. Try resetting the preferences. Try booting into safe mode. And then see if it continues. I'm using a Mac as well and cannot reproduce this.

Also: you might want to contact Customer Care. They can login to your comouter and assist you. https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html

Yes, Safari is always open. Regarding preferences, before I got in touch, I tried doing everything I could find about this issue, and resetting preferences was one option, so I did that already. Safe Mode rebooting as well because I got in touch with Apple regarding a problem with the display, so I did it with the assistant. I'll get in touch with Adobe customer care. Again, thank you so much for all your help.

I'm hoping that an Update might solve this on this computer.

Safari can interfere with the clipboard.

Try and reboot the computer and then open only Illustrator. Nothing else. No email, no browser. Nothing.
