Paste remembers layers not working with legacy files in illus CC update?

Community Beginner ,

Has anyone encountered 'paste remembers layers' not working across legacy and new files in the new update of illus CC?

I am simply copying old layered artwork into a new file (illus updated to CC 2017 yesterday)

Paste remembers layers is turned on, in all the files

New files will copy normaly with remembers layers from file to file.

Copying artwork from an old file to new file WILL NOT REMEMBER THE LAYERS?

I tried saving the old file as a new file then pasting into a new file - same result NO LAYERS?

Have i missed something ? do i need to check another box to keep the layers across the paste?

Sorted It

The old files had lost their layer names and was replaced with the <layer> tag

simply replaced with numbers and the 'paste remembers' carries over to the new files.

i just tried copying from a CS5-created file and one I just made in CC2017 and it seemed fine (i.e a new layer was generated in the blank new doc with the name of the one from the CS5 file).

Hi

Can you select and copy over 2 or 3 layers in one go, and they remain in the same layers in the new file?

the files i am trying to copy from are from 2009.
