how can i copy paste objects from one place to another at their exact location.?? for example i cut a circle located near the left edge of a rectangle, i cut it and paste it into new layer but it gets pasted at a different location just like it happens in photoshop. i have to move it separately to the desired location.
arjun,
As CupertinoFruit says.
I use Ctrl/Cmd+F or Ctrl/Cmd+B to paste into the same position, front or back, hence my suggestion which applies to all versions.

If you are on Illustrator CS6, you can use the Paste in Place command (under Edit menu) - shortcut is Cmd-Shift-V on Mac (Ctrl-Shift-V on Win).

arjun,
Are you saying that it gets moved when you use Ctrl/Cmd+F (to place it at the front in the current layer)?

I don't use ctrl+f. i use ctrl+x to cut it from current layer and then choose another layer [using layers pallette] and then paste it in it using ctrl+v

Paste in Place is available in CS5 too, so try using it. Don't use Ctrl-V - it will paste in the center of your view.

You are welcome, arjun.
As CupertinoFruit said, you can use Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+V in the latest versions. I guess it corresponds to Ctrl/Cmd+F.

you can change to ctrl+v if you want, go to Edit->Keyboard Shortcuts..., in the drop down choose "Menu Commands", expand the "Edit" menu, select "Paste in Front" and edit the shortcut to Ctrl-V.
it will tell you it belongs to Paste, click ok to overwrite.

You should only need ctrl-shift-v to do Paste in Place. With Alt it becomes Paste on All Artboards.
