Pattern Brush: How to fix overlapping geometry error?

Community Beginner ,
Dec 28, 2017 Dec 28, 2017

Creating a rope/braid pattern brush intended for use on a circle. Once the brush is applied to the circle (Rope_01.jpg), there's a strange repeating pattern happening at far right (Rope_02.jpg for close up of issue), regardless of which version of Illustrator (have had this issue from Illustrator CS1 all the way up to CC2018). Have never been able to find out why or how to fix. Anyone have any solutions?  Thanks!

Don't make your pattern go outside the tile like that:

But keep it inside like that:

Here is a file I made for you with a right pattern to use making your pattern brush:

That is because when you made your pattern there was artwork outside the Tile.
Remake your pattern and make sure that nothing outside the tile.
