Pencil and brush tool both keep going to standard settings when drawing, how to solve?

If I change the settings of my pencil tool and start drawing it automatically goes back to the standard settings, I have looked everywhere but can't get it solved, same with the brush tool. Already installed Adobe illustrator again, but the problem is still there. I only can change it when the line is selected and I add the thickness and appearance again, but that is not workable. Who knows how to solve this problem?
