Does anyone know how to turn the transparency grid off permanently? I have to go in and hide it every time I open a new document.
Also, does anyone know what the green ruler guide things are and how do I turn those off?
that's the video safe areas, crosshairs etc. you'll see them if you open a new document with a document profile based on Film & Video (or indeed Video & Film).
turn them off in the artboard options and view > rulers > video rulers, then save to document profiles. or use another profile that doesn't have them turned on

Create a new document profile without transparency grid.
The green things are the smart guides.

That makes the grid go away, which is what I do every time I open a new file. The smart guides are turned off, yet the green guides remain.
I've tried setting up a new document without those things, but it still isn't working. If they are a feature I have to get used to I can, I would just prefer to see what I'm working on without all the junk that's on the document now.
Below is an image of the green guides.

Set up your own New document profile that doesn't have them.
