Hello!

What would be the best settings for printing a vector design in a PDF file format. I am really uncertain of how to select the most important settings for a vector design in a PDF format. I did research, but the explanations seemed very confusing. Thanks in advance for your time!

I want to save my vector design as a .pdf which can later be sent to a printer for printing branding materials.

Which version of Illustrator are you using?

In general, the "best" settings depend on your requirements (or the requirements of your printer or someone else).

Are you talking about printing to .pdf or do you mean saving as .pdf?

I use illustrator cc. I am not sure about my requirements as I am trying to learn this for my future work as a freelance logo designer. What would you need to know exactly before you can decide what settings to select? I am talking about saving a file as .pdf that can then be sent to a printer in order to print some type of branding material like a business card or a poster.

I know that I sound like a complete newbie, but for some reason, file formats always seem to confuse me greatly.

You will need to learn how color and color management works.

You will need to learn about how printing works.

And then you will need to learn how web design works.

And then you will need to decide for each job.

This is nothing that can be explained in a forum post.

There are courses and books available on all of the subjects.
