Problem with Pasting in Place

Community Beginner ,

I'm unable to "paste in place" any size photo or graphic. It keeps pasting into the top left corner of the artboard rather than into the shape I want to paste into. I tried reverting back to the old version to see if it was a bug, however still had the same results. I've never had a problem pasting in place before?

Paste in place does it in the very same position it was copied or cut from.

Paste Into, is a different thing, select an object and the item or group copied or cut can be place inside the limits of the path, or compound path.

Where is the option to paste into? I only see paste in front, back or place. Have always used "in place" and I don't remember having issues?

A part of your description is a little confusing. Paste in Place does not paste into a shape. There's a Paste Into in InDesign, but not Illustrator.

With Paste in Place, the object will be Pasted exactly in the position from which it was copied. So if the orginal object is positioned in the upper-lefthand corner of your Artboard when copied, it will Paste in Place in exactly that same position.

Ahh okay maybe I've always "pasted into" in InDesign and not Illustrator.

Thanks!

To get the equivilent of Paste into, choose the Draw Inside drawing mode, and then paste with the shape selected.
