Radial patterns - help!

Can someone help me? I have to build a worldmap in this style - small squares in a circle. The squares should have the same size. But i have no idea how to build this. To overlay the square-circles overt the worldmap is definitely no problem, but first i have to build this circle-square-file... hmmm...

Correct answer Ton Frederiks

Create a circle with a dashed stroke.

Scale a smaller copy and leave Scale Strokes and Effects unchecked.

Create a Blend with a number of specified steps in the Blend Options.

Expand the Blend.

Outline Stroke.

Object > Compound Path > Release

Effect > Convert to Shape > Rectangle, Size relative, without any extra width or height.

The circular arranged squares can be achieved with blends.

First create the circles: small one for the center, large one for otuside

Cut them both open at the top

Blend them to create thecircles

Expand the blend

Then create 2 squares (for each of those circles)

Blend the squares with the circle as a blend spine.

You will need to adjust the number of steps for each of the circles individually.

Expand all the blends and then use this technique to bring them in the shape you want: http://vektorgarten.de/align-and-distribute-pathfinder.html

Alternatively use the plugin Phantasm (the halftone function) to make this.
